Some of you may already know about the initiative to ‘ponder the production of food’ in the Ballarat area in 2020. It’s the Go Local initiative that will culminate in a public forum session on Sat 21st April this year. A flyer with more details is available.

It is time once again for the annual Ballarat Community Garden Harvest Festival.

We invite the wider community to visit our lovely garden and join us in celebrating the joy of gardening and knowledge sharing. We will have information, plants, produce, food, music and activities for the kids.

Gardeners and members, please get involved if you haven’t done so already. We still need help with preparations for the day, plus bodies to run the stalls on the day and for the inevitable cleanup afterwards. Contact any of the management committee members for information on who is co-ordinating what.

Special planning meeting

You are invited to attend a Celebration and Planning Session at the Ballarat Community Garden on Saturday 17th March. Arrival time is 9.30am, in time to grab a cup of something and chat with friends before the official start at 10am. Finish time will be 12.30pm. Venue……The Shed! (Yahoo!)

Bridget O’Sullivan has kindly donated her time to facilitate a 2 1/2hr session to celebrate how much has been achieved in the garden and to dream and plan for the future.

Bridget did an amazing job in 2007 when she worked on the Foundations for the Future Project,published in 2008, gleaning from the gardeners what they wanted to see happening in their community garden. The Project became our 5 year plan and now that we have completed just about everything on the list, it’s time to look to our future again.

We shall be sending out some material prior to the session to stimulate the creative corners of your mind, and which we hope you will bring along on the day to share with your fellow gardeners.

If you could contribute a small plate for morning tea that would be greatly appreciated. Tea and coffee will be provided.

This session will run to time as Bridget has a beautiful little baby she will have to attend to, so no going over time!

It will be wonderful to see as many gardeners as possible contributing their ideas towards the future of BCG. We are such a vibrant community I am looking forward to hearing what people would like to see happening next!

Seed Saving workshop

John Ditchburn will be holding another seed saving workshop on Sunday Feb. 26th at 10am If you have not been to one of these before, they are a fantastic introduction to the topic. John very generously donates all proceeds to BCG. Please let family, friends and neighbours know about this event. See this poster for details.

Infrastructure updates – the shed and the pizza oven environs

We have our clubroom shed!

The paving will commence shortly and it is planned to have the next committee meeting at the shed at 5:30 on Thursday 16 February.

Also the pizza oven area is getting a facelift. Thanks for Nick MacD for helping out with equipment and David for driving the Kanga. Do not forget that pizza night happens every Friday around 6pm weather permitting. (BYO everything)

Sucessful evening with North Melbourne football players

Thank you to all the people who made Mon 6th Feb such a huge success. The visit from the North Melbourne football players was such a lovely time. Greg, Deb, Faye and David did a mammoth job with the catering, along with a few other helpers who slipped in and did a great job.
The players had a great time and it was fabulous to see them kicking the ball with the children. The Courier arrived just in time and the photo in the paper is great.
I have had lots of great comments about the evening. Well done to everyone!

Soul Food comes to Ballarat

The devotional gathering provides an arena for people of different faiths, philosophies and cultures to unite in a tranquil environment and reflect on inspiring themes and issues of spiritual import.

Summer Sundays at Ballarat Botanic Gardens

Enjoy summer in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens at the City of Ballarat’s free ‘Summer Sundays’ event series.

Previously known as ‘Arts in the Park’ the event now has a new name – ‘Summer Sundays’ and a new location – Ballarat Botanical Gardens.

Summer Sundays will be held on 8, 15, 22 January from 5 to 8pm featuring a fantastic line up of music and 29 January from dusk enjoy a movie under the stars. Every week there will be a delicious dessert available for purchase.
