Hi young gardeners,
Winter has really set in and it is a bit too cold and wet most of the time for outdoor gardening activities. So here are some jokes to satisfy your gardening thirst
What does a tree drink?
Root Beer!
Why is grass so dangerous?
Because it's full of blades!
Why couldn't the old flower ride his bike?
Because he lost his petals!
What happened to the plant in maths class?
It grew square roots!
What do you get when you cross stinging nettle with a four leaf clover?
A rash of good luck.
What do you get when you cross a genius with a tree?
Albert Pine-stein!
What do you get when you cross fruit with a necklace?
A food chain!
What is small, red and whispers?
A hoarse radish!
What do you say to spoiled lettuce?
You should have your head examined.
Why didn`t the tree like playing draughts?
It was a chessnut

If you would like to make something for the harvest festival coming up, here's an idea to get you going. It is a plant seed packet you can make. Maybe ask an adult to help you with this one as it needs, printing out, cutting up with scissors and then glueing and some putting together. But you would end up with a lovely seed packet.
Here's a jigsaw puzzle for you to do after your homework is finished!

Ballarat has had a long, cold, wet winter this year. According to the Bureau of Meterology, we have had in excess of 150 mm and August is not over yet. Lake Wendouree is looking full at last and hopefully water reserves have improved significantly all over the region.
The weather has put a bit of a damper (so to speak) on visiting the garden, but behind the scenes, folks have been orgainising a fundraiser and preparing for the seedling propagation workshop with John Ditchburn on this Sunday. We can also look forward to being one of the participants in the Ballarat Gardens in spring 2010 event. We have been listed as inspirational in the adverstising brochure, so let's hope we all get inspired to pitch in and do our spring planting as soon as we see a bit sun. See you soon at the working bee coming up.
